Matilda Lindell has reached a significant milestone, celebrating 18 years on stage as a Swedish singer and entertainer. Her vibrant performances feature spandex, sequins, and flowing fringe as she embodies the spirit of Agnetha Fältskog, the original pop icon. Lindell leads in ‘ABBA The Concert,’ one of the world’s most successful ABBA tribute tours.
Fans can catch Lindell headlining with her group at an exclusive concert at Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana’s Live Venue. This event promises a captivating experience with classic ABBA hits such as ‘Mamma Mia,’ ‘S.O.S,’ ‘Money, Money, Money,’ and ‘Dancing Queen.’ Lindell has expressed excitement about performing in the U.S., mentioning the enthusiastic celebration of ABBA’s music by American audiences.
‘ABBA The Concert: A Tribute to ABBA,’ formed in 1999, showcases an all-Swedish cast. Lindell, who joined at 26, proves her vocal range by stepping into both female lead roles. Today, she often collaborates with fellow performers Elisabet Karlsson or Mia Ternström, alongside Martin Håkansson as Benny Andersson, and Matte Andersson portraying Björn Ulvaeus.
“When we perform ‘Waterloo,’ the audience’s attention peaks due to our iconic costumes,” Lindell stated.
These costumes bear the unique painted cat design crafted by Owe Sandström, the original costume designer. This look became an emblem during ABBA’s 1974 launch of ‘Waterloo.’ The authentic recreations maintain intricate details, including flared pant legs and heavy fabric for stage authenticity.
ABBA’s original band members are now retired, with Björn Ulvaeus at 81, Agnetha Fältskog at 76, Benny Anderson at 79, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad at 80. Lindell’s career began at 16 on the Swedish soap opera ‘Tre kronor,’ which fueled her passion for performing. Despite her love for live touring, she hopes to return to television and film.
When discussing the unique experiences of performing live, Lindell noted the impact of venue conditions on performances. She prefers natural stage fog over theatrical haze due to its effect on vocals, although shiny, bright costumes help maintain visibility amidst stage effects.
