A confrontation after a car crash in Apopka, Florida, led to the shooting death of 56-year-old Daryl Alexander Hill. The accused shooter, Raul Lionel Vazquez, 26, faces a second-degree murder charge, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies received reports of the incident at 8:27 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, finding Hill face down with a gunshot wound at a town intersection northwest of Orlando. Although he was transported to the hospital, he was declared dead at 9:20 a.m.
Hill, remembered for his lively personality, leaves behind his wife, Suzy Hill, and their 10-year-old daughter.
Eyewitness accounts described an ongoing altercation between Vazquez and Kaidy Honaker inside a white Chevy Silverado. This fight escalated after their vehicle collided with a black Lexus. The two continued arguing outside the truck.
Hill, who was nearby on a bicycle, intervened. Witnesses reported that he engaged in a physical conflict with Vazquez, which ended when both fell into bushes. Soon after, Hill attempted to run away, raising his hands and calling for help.
Vazquez returned to his truck, retrieved a shotgun, and shot Hill, who collapsed as a result. During an interview with investigators, Vazquez shared varied accounts of the event but claimed Hill was overpowering him.
Vazquez was out on bond for a separate aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon at the time of Hill’s death. Court records revealed a previous arrest for a domestic violence incident in March that included claims of strangulation.
The Apopka Police Department is handling the ongoing investigation. The decision to grant bond in previous cases rests with the State Attorney’s Office. No immediate comments have been made by the office regarding Vazquez’s bond status.
