Investigations Launched After Off-Duty Sergeant’s Threatening Confrontation in Chicago

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) are investigating an incident involving an off-duty CPD sergeant. The incident, captured in a viral video, shows Sergeant Jeremy Sikorski allegedly threatening a group of teenagers and their families on the Southwest Side.

These investigations were initiated following the circulation of the video on social media. The footage, shared by CWBChicago, displays a muscular, middle-aged man aggressively confronting the teens.

Internal Affairs Inquiry

Both CPD’s Bureau of Internal Affairs and COPA have opened probes into the confrontation. The video depicts Sikorski issuing profane threats, demanding the presence of the teenagers’ parents, and knocking a teen girl’s phone to the ground.

“I’ll knock your (expletive) ass out,” Sikorski told one of the teen boys. “Get your (expletive) parents over here. I’ll beat the (expletive) out of them and I’ll beat the (expletive) out of you.”

Sikorski is heard accusing the teens of picking on two younger children, a claim the teenagers deny. They reportedly attempted to avoid these younger kids due to crude remarks directed at teen girls.

Consequences and Reactions

A CPD spokesperson confirmed that Sikorski has been stripped of his police powers and reassigned to the Alternate Response Section. COPA has also confirmed the launch of an investigation, and Sikorski has not commented on the matter.

Records from the city’s Office of Inspector General indicate that Sikorski has been subject to 22 other misconduct allegations during his career, with two of these accusations having been sustained.
