The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has decided to stop its support for the Arctic climate and environment report, which it has been part of in the past. This decision impacts the 2026 Arctic Report Card, as reported by The Hill.
Rick Thoman, the lead editor of the report, stated that participants learned about NOAA’s withdrawal through a phone call. He mentioned, “We were informed in a phone call with NOAA yesterday that effective immediately NOAA was ending all support for the Arctic Report Card.” Thoman added that no explanation was provided for this move.
The Arctic Report Card has been a yearly publication since 2006, detailing the current state of the Arctic region. NOAA’s withdrawal leaves this year’s edition uncertain. Thoman expressed efforts to find a solution to release the report by December despite the challenges presented by the timing.
