A 46-year-old actor and producer from Lompoc, California, Shane Ryan Gledhill, is facing significant legal trouble. Authorities have charged him with 24 felony counts following accusations of child sexual abuse. Investigators say he used online casting calls to reach out to minors.
Officials arrested Gledhill on August 3. This followed a nearly five-year investigation by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives into claims of exploitation.
Gledhill’s work involved collaborations with well-known actors such as Shelley Duvall, Tom Arnold, Richard Dreyfuss, and Ed Harris. Initially, authorities booked him for 15 felony charges, but this number has since increased to 24.
Investigative Process
The investigation commenced in November 2021. A 17-year-old survivor approached the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s investigators, reporting questionable and inappropriate behavior from Gledhill while she was 15. This report led to a broader inquiry identifying nine survivors, according to the Sheriff’s Office. All alleged victims were minors when the offenses took place.
In February 2022, investigators enforced a search warrant at Gledhill’s residence in Lompoc. They confiscated thousands of digital files, which then underwent a comprehensive forensic examination.
The investigation revealed a pattern of alleged contact with young aspiring actors via online casting calls and filmmaking projects.
Public Appeal and Charges
Currently, Gledhill remains in custody at the Santa Barbara County jail. Authorities issued a public appeal by releasing his booking photograph. They aim to identify more potential survivors or witnesses who might recognize Gledhill under his professional names, ‘Shane Ryan’ and ‘Shane Ryan-Reid.’
These charges against him include offenses such as child molestation, rape, forcible sexual assault, contacting a minor for a sexual offense, possessing child sexual abuse material, and providing harmful matter to a minor.
Gledhill was arrested at his Lompoc home based on an arrest warrant. His bail is set at $2 million.
Call for Additional Survivors
Detectives suspect there could be more survivors who have not yet come forward. They believe the alleged misconduct spans about 25 years, with potential survivors located along California’s Central Coast, the Los Angeles area, and the East Coast.
Gledhill has a preliminary court hearing scheduled for September 9 at the Santa Barbara County Superior Court’s Lompoc division.
