Ilja Dragunov Departs WWE
Ilja Dragunov, known for his impressive performances in WWE, has left the company. His profile has been moved to the WWE alumni section. Dragunov, a one-time WWE United States champion, NXT champion, and NXT UK champion, did not renew his contract as reported by PW Insider.
Wrestling Career Highlights
Dragunov joined WWE in February 2019 following a successful stint with Progress Wrestling and other European promotions. His fierce competitiveness quickly earned him the NXT UK Championship. Despite a leg injury in his last NXT UK appearance, Dragunov made a significant impact on NXT in September 2022. He competed against top wrestlers such as Bron Breakker, JD McDonagh, and Carmelo Hayes.
Ilja Dragunov achieved a new milestone by winning the NXT Championship from Carmelo Hayes in September 2023. This victory made Dragunov the first wrestler to hold both the NXT and NXT UK Championships.
Final WWE Stints and Injuries
Dragunov’s tenure in NXT concluded in April 2024 when he lost the NXT Championship to Trick Williams. Following WrestleMania 40, he moved to the Raw roster but suffered a torn ACL, which sidelined him for a year.
In his return, Dragunov pursued the WWE United States Championship. He claimed the title by defeating Sami Zayn in October 2025. Dragunov successfully defended the championship multiple times but eventually lost it to Carmelo Hayes.
Recent Appearances
Dragunov participated in the Royal Rumble earlier this year and was last seen at the “Friday Night SmackDown” before WrestleMania 42, competing in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
