The Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), a major GOP campaign group connected with John Thune, R-S.D., has announced that they and their allies have raised over $500 million in preparation for the 2026 U.S. Senate elections. This record-setting amount is part of their strategy to secure a Republican majority in the upcoming midterms.
Despite historical challenges for the president’s party during midterm elections, Republicans have amassed significant resources to challenge Democrats in both the House and Senate. According to SLF Executive Director Alex Latcham, “Thanks to Leader John Thune and our generous investors, the Senate Leadership Fund and its affiliated groups have acquired more resources than any previous Senate effort.”
Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., emphasized Republican budget proposals and ongoing issues such as the Iran conflict during a press conference at the U.S. Capitol.
“We cannot slow down as Chuck Schumer and Radical Democrats aim to revert our nation to open borders, rampant crime, and overwhelming inflation,” Latcham said.
The SLF aims to highlight these topics in their campaign materials, emphasising Democrats’ opposition to parts of President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda and their alignment with far-left policies. In states such as Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, and North Carolina, their ad campaigns focus on issues like soft-on-crime policies and past incidents affecting Democratic candidates.
In one featured interview, a parent recounts the tragic death of their daughter at the hands of Alexander Dickey, a repeat offender with nearly 40 criminal charges. Another ad targets Iowa’s Josh Turek, criticizing his absentee record in the legislature while running for Senate.
“We expect our lawmakers to participate, yet liberal politician Josh Turek missed 58% of his votes in the Iowa legislature — votes crucial for veterans and school funding,” the ad claims.
Latcham stated that SLF’s layered strategic messaging, robust resources, and strong GOP candidates will secure victories in the elections.
“With outstanding candidates, a compelling message, and record funding, we are confident that Senate Republicans will retain their majority this November,” Latcham added.
