Richard Russo Explores Community in His Latest Novel

Richard Russo is an acclaimed author known for his storytelling over his 30-year career. He has written 10 novels, collaborated on screen adaptations, and won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. Russo’s latest novel, Under the Falls, brings readers back to the familiar community of his youth.

For PBS NewsHour’s arts and culture series, CANVAS, Senior Arts Correspondent Jeffrey Brown visited Russo. Brown, with a long career covering national and international issues, has been with NewsHour for more than 30 years. He has worked as a co-anchor, studio moderator, and field reporter, traveling extensively across the United States and other parts of the world. His arts reportage includes profiling prominent writers, musicians, actors, and other artists.

Brown’s notable projects include “Culture at Risk,” a series highlighting endangered cultural heritage domestically and internationally. He also created NewsHour’s online segment “Art Beat” and hosts the monthly book club “Now Read This,” in collaboration with The New York Times.
