Arrest Details
U.S. Capitol Police arrested Philan-Tam-Duy Le of Julian, California, who was found with a guillotine in the bed of a pickup truck. Le was taken into custody on suspicion of carrying a dangerous weapon and possessing the guillotine, according to a police news release.
Incident Location
The vehicle was parked along the 100 block of East Capitol Street near the U.S. Capitol and Supreme Court. The truck was illegally parked, drawing the attention of officers.
Suspect Background
Le, aged 35, traveled from California to Washington, D.C. U.S. Capitol Police are investigating his background to determine his reasons for being in Washington at this time.
Social Media Activity
An Instagram account reportedly belonging to Le showed a video of a man with the guillotine outside the FBI headquarters. The video was captioned with phrases such as “Guillotine adventures” and referenced “Capital hill next.” The video included a voice saying, “Outside the FBI building, just eating some cheese pizza.”
Additional Information
Even though Congress is currently in recess and lawmakers are in their home districts, Capitol Police continue to make arrests outside the Capitol grounds. These incidents are not always linked to political motives.
