An airport worker tragically lost their life this week after being hit by a passenger jet. The accident occurred at YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport in Quebec, Canada.
The incident involved an Airbus A350 from French Bee, a budget airline, as confirmed by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB). The worker, whose identity remains confidential, was employed by Samsic, a ground-handling company.
The mishap took place during ground operations prior to the departure of Flight BF5761 to Paris-Orly, according to French Bee. The accident occurred during the aircraft’s pushback operation, but the details are yet to be fully determined.
French Bee expresses its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual, along with its support for colleagues and teams impacted by this incident,said a spokesperson.
The airline is collaborating with Canadian authorities and offers its full support to the investigation.
Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) expressed their sorrow over the occurrence. Yves Beauchamp, president and CEO of ADM, remarked, The loss of a member of our airport community affects us all deeply.
ADM is committed to assisting employees and passengers who witnessed the accident and is working closely with the investigating bodies.
The Quebec coroner’s office has been informed and is examining the circumstances surrounding the death. ADM has chosen not to provide additional comments out of respect for the victim and their family, instead directing media inquiries to the investigatory authorities.
This incident comes after two recent fatal accidents at North American airports. Earlier this year, a Delta Air Lines employee died in an accident involving an airport tug vehicle at Orlando International Airport. Around the same time, a person on a runway was struck and killed by a Frontier Airlines jet at Denver International Airport.
