An armed individual was apprehended at President Donald Trump’s California golf course on August 2, carrying detailed information about First Lady Melania Trump’s schedule and U.S. Secret Service personnel.
Jeanine John Taele, aged 38, possessed over 200 pages of documents, including schedules for the First Lady and details of the Secret Service protection team, according to reports presented at a Los Angeles County court hearing. Prosecutors revealed that Taele had seven notebooks containing 208 pages with sketches of Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes and lists of Secret Service schedules, as well as individual security personnel details.

Jeanine John Taele faces four criminal charges following his arrest outside the golf course, just days before President Donald Trump’s scheduled visit.
The writings found also contained detailed plans for living “off the grid,” as reported by the Associated Press. Judge John Lonergan Jr. described the allegations as “alarming,” noting the increasing violence and political partisanship around the midterms election period.
Criminal proceedings were suspended when a pretrial evaluation deemed Taele unfit to stand trial due to mental health concerns, and the case was redirected to a mental health court.

Taele was arrested after agents noticed him taking photos and videos, appearing to observe security preparations prior to Trump’s visit. Sheriff’s deputies allegedly discovered a loaded magazine with hollow-point ammunition in Taele’s pocket.
A search of Taele’s vehicle uncovered a loaded pistol with an extra magazine of hollow-point ammunition. Additional searches at Taele’s home found an illegally modified assault rifle, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk ammunition, radio signal devices, and notebooks containing unsettling statements.
The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, Secret Service, and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continue to investigate the matter. Taele claimed he was employed by the State Department and was at the golf course for a security assignment.
His public defender cautioned against presuming Taele’s motivations, stating he has familial support and noting his service to the country as a Marine who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Secret Service noted its commitment to investigating any potential threats or directed interests toward individuals under its protection but declined specific commentary on protective intelligence issues.
President Trump commented on the incident earlier this month, reflecting on the notion that only consequential presidents face threats like the one described.
