Paige Bueckers Firmly Establishes Herself Among WNBA’s Elite

Many WNBA fans consider Paige Bueckers, alongside Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, as one of the league’s top players. The 24-year-old Dallas Wings guard recently completed a remarkable rookie season, securing both the WNBA and AP Rookie of the Year awards. She also earned a spot on the All-WNBA Second Team and made the All-Star team.

This season, Bueckers ranks among the top 10 in both scoring, with 20.6 points per game, and assists, with 5.9 per game. Her performance has helped the Wings claim the final playoff spot. Despite these achievements, ESPN’s recent top 50 player ranking placed her at number five, behind Wilson, Clark, Breanna Stewart from the New York Liberty, and Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles.

Paige Bueckers has emerged as one of the premier guards in the league this season, stated Alexa Philippou. Bueckers’ numbers have slightly decreased since the All-Star break, yet she impressed with two standout games: 32 points in three quarters against Seattle and a 22-point, 11-assist double-double versus Portland. With Azzi Fudd sidelined for the season, Bueckers shoulders more responsibility as Dallas aims to complete its strongest regular season since 2023 before entering the playoffs.

Currently, Bueckers averages over a point and a half-assist more per game than last season. She leads the Wings in scoring, assists, and minutes per game at 32.2. She is also second in rebounds, collecting 4.1 per game, and third in steals, with 0.8 per game. The Wings rely heavily on her to maintain their playoff position, especially with top pick Azzi Fudd out due to a knee injury.

Arike Ogunbowale and Jessica Shepard, with averages of 15.2 and 14.4 points respectively, support Bueckers as double-digit scorers. While a deep playoff run may be unlikely, the Wings have clearly advanced in their rebuilding process.
