President Donald Trump spoke with American astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) from Houston, after honoring the Artemis II crew. The event took place at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
In a light-hearted moment at the beginning of the call, Trump noted that while many Americans dream of space travel, he personally would not want to do it. He expressed admiration for those who do.
“I wouldn’t do it,” he said during his visit to NASA. “I hate to admit it. I would not want to do it. But some people love it more than anything.”
The astronauts on the ISS expressed their excitement in speaking with Trump. They mentioned being busy with several spacewalks, with more planned in the coming days.
Trump praised the astronauts, referring to them as ‘pioneers’ in space exploration. He extended an invitation for them to visit the White House upon their return and welcomed other officials to join the conversation.
Shortly before this exchange, Trump honored the Artemis II crew with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. He also signed an executive order to establish the U.S. Space Force Academy, promising it would achieve the same level of prestige as other U.S. military academies like West Point and Annapolis.
Trump concluded the event by ensuring the astronauts that they will be received warmly once they return, even offering time in the Oval Office.
