In Friday’s game against the Portland Fire, Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese had a mix of achievements and challenges. At 24 years old, Reese scored 16 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, contributed six assists, and made two steals. She became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach over 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 250 assists during her career.
Reese’s performance included her 28th double-double of the season, tying her for the most in a single WNBA season with five games remaining. According to ESPN Insights, Reese now has two of the top three highest double-double totals in a single season.

However, Reese also faced setbacks in the fourth quarter. She received her eighth technical foul of the season, leading to an automatic one-game suspension. She is set to miss Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Lynx unless the league rescinds the technical foul.
During the incident, Reese got caught up with Fire guard Carla Leite, resulting in Reese shoving Leite. Video replay captured the moment when Reese pushed Leite, following a successful corner three by Dream guard Rhyne Howard. A second push occurred as they separated.
Dream head coach Karl Smesko shared his view after the game, expressing hope for an appeal. I’m sure we’ll appeal it,
Smesko said, noting that from his perspective the actions didn’t appear deserving of a technical foul.
Smesko stood by Reese, stating, We’ll probably have a conversation with Reese, but she’s been really good from early in the season. She’s really managed not to get technical fouls and never deserved one. As I said, what I saw didn’t look like a technical, maybe a foul. Hopefully, this will be rescinded, and we’ll have Angel’s services for the Minnesota game.
