New investigations are unfolding concerning James Comey, the former FBI Director. A recent subpoena targets Daniel Richman, a former advisor and friend to Comey. Multiple law enforcement sources have informed Fox News Digital about this development. The Department of Justice is investigating potential leaks of classified information to the New York Times.
This is not the first time the issue has been looked at. It was previously investigated during Donald Trump’s first presidential term but paused with the commencement of Joe Biden’s presidency. The investigation regarding Comey’s alleged threats towards Trump is also continuing.
The Trump-era DOJ once withdrew subpoenas aimed at New York Times journalists amidst a leak probe.
Richman, known for his insights into the original 2018 leak investigation, is now facing fresh scrutiny. He had sued prosecutors for breaching his Fourth Amendment rights by accessing his electronic devices during investigations between 2019 and 2020. Last December, a federal judge in Washington, D.C., sided with him.
Comey had been indicted for charges of false statements and congressional obstruction related to his 2020 testimony about FBI officials anonymously releasing information to news outlets. Richman, previously associated with the FBI, is accused of liaising with reporters concerning probes into Hillary Clinton prior to her 2016 election defeat by Donald Trump.
The case is pressing forward as Comey deals with litigation over an Instagram post labeled “86 47.” Prosecutors claim this post posed a threat to Trump. Comey is charged federally with two offenses, facing up to 10 years in prison. The initial prosecutor on this case resigned in June.
Acting Attorney General, Todd Blanche, emphasized the severity of threatening the President’s life in an April statement. He noted Comey’s indictment and the nation’s exposure to violent incitements and actions against Trump and other officials. He stressed the need for calm and accountability for anyone threatening the President.
James Comey’s previous notes are resurfacing as relevant in these ongoing legal matters.
