Officials have confirmed a second death at Grand Canyon National Park following severe flash floods over the weekend. The park was hit by torrential rains, leading to dangerous conditions in remote areas popular with hikers and campers.
The National Park Service reported that more than a dozen people are still unaccounted for as ongoing search and recovery operations take place along Bright Angel Creek. This creek stretches from near the canyon’s north rim down to the Colorado River.
Authorities have expressed concern that search efforts could be hampered by additional rain and thunderstorms predicted for Monday.
Rescue teams found the first victim, a 46-year-old man, late Sunday near Crystal Rapids along the Colorado River. No further details have been released regarding the second victim.
