The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have arrested Mu’in al-Arabid, the head of Hamas’ General Security Apparatus, during a military operation in Gaza. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the capture.
An Israeli security official reported that al-Arabid was detained during a deep incursion into Hamas-controlled territory. To facilitate the operation’s withdrawal, the IDF conducted airstrikes. There were no Israeli casualties reported.
“A senior Hamas terrorist was arrested recently. This is our policy: actively pursue Hamas terrorists, disrupt their plans, and dismantle their infrastructure,” Katz stated.
The IDF has constructed a significant security zone in Gaza to protect both residents and its soldiers. Katz further stated, “About 70% of Gaza is under IDF control with extensive destruction witnessed. We will not leave Gaza until it is demilitarized, and Hamas is disarmed.”
The operation comes shortly after the Trump administration urged Hamas to disarm and relinquish Gaza. Last month, Jared Kushner, advisor to President Trump, visited Israel and discussed potential U.S. support for the IDF to complete its objectives in the region.
“If commitments are not fulfilled, it will be evident that Hamas is not sincere about peace,” Kushner noted. His comments followed a direct meeting with Hamas representatives in Egypt.
Kushner emphasized, “They said all the right things, but trust remains an issue given their record. We had a cordial discussion and are giving them a chance to act on their promises.”
The U.S.-led “Board of Peace” initiative focuses on a phased ceasefire, Gaza demilitarization, Israeli troop withdrawal, and international aid efforts.
