Rep. Jake Auchincloss moved forward on Tuesday against Jason Poulos in the race for Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional District. Auchincloss, in office since 2021, encountered a Democratic primary challenge for the first time since winning his seat.
Poulos, an AI policy researcher with progressive views, criticized Auchincloss for his past support of military aid to Israel and his connections with AIPAC. Poulos advocated for ending U.S. military assistance to Israel, a stance Auchincloss did not support.

Poulos’s campaign emphasized proposals such as Medicare-for-all, universal basic income, taxes on corporate automation, stronger unions, and student debt cancellation. He also wanted to reduce military spending and end U.S. military aid to Israel.
Despite his AIPAC endorsement, Auchincloss has voiced criticism regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza, suggesting some had crossed humanitarian lines. AIPAC, a dominant pro-Israel lobby, has faced criticism for supporting U.S. military aid to Israel amidst the Gaza conflict.

In July, Auchincloss voted with over 100 House Democrats to cut $3.3 billion in U.S. military aid to Israel, yet maintained his support for the U.S.-Israel alliance.
Auchincloss’s platform highlighted his efforts to reduce housing and healthcare costs, promote economic growth, and prepare Democrats to address the economic effects of AI advancements.
Auchincloss, succeeding Joe Kennedy III, has Boston medical family roots. Previously a registered Republican, he worked on former Gov. Charlie Baker’s campaign, a fact used against him by primary opponents. He later rejoined the Democratic Party.
