On Tuesday, Chicago White Sox starter Sean Burke began the game with two walks against the Houston Astros. This led to a visit from pitching coach Zach Bove. Burke recalled, He reminded me not to go down a difficult path again and to focus on what’s working well.
Burke responded positively to the coaching and subsequently recorded two flyouts and a strikeout, ending the first inning without allowing a run.

Burke’s final stats included six strikeouts and four walks in a 104-pitch outing. The only hit permitted was a one-out double by Taylor Trammell in the fifth inning. Manager Will Venable praised Burke for his resilience after a shaky start.
The White Sox pitching was backed by Bryan Hudson, Jordan Hicks, and Grant Taylor, who collectively limited the Astros to three hits. With this victory, the Sox retained a three-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central.
The White Sox offense also stepped up with notable contributions in two-out situations. Andrew Benintendi drove in Sam Antonacci with a fifth-inning single, followed by a two-run double by Colson Montgomery. Randal Grichuk extended the lead to 5-0 with a two-run double in the seventh inning.
Reflecting on facing pitcher Tatsuya Imai, Grichuk mentioned, Having never faced him, I looked for a good pitch to hit and managed to connect well.
This offensive rebound was critical following a 6-3 loss the previous day, where the Sox struggled with runners in scoring positions.

Burke had previously struggled with control during his August 26 outing against the Texas Rangers, allowing eight walks in three innings. Although some issues persisted on Tuesday, he managed to keep control without letting problems escalate.
Burke stated, Despite feeling out of sync recently, it’s about getting outs and keeping the score in check. Catcher Drew Romo’s game-calling and the offensive support in the fifth inning provided a boost.
With Romo’s guidance and timely offensive contributions, Burke felt more in sync, ultimately leading to a successful outing.
