Lane Kiffin is set to make his head coaching debut with the LSU Tigers this Saturday. They will play against the visiting Clemson Tigers in Baton Rouge. His move to LSU last season was a major headline in college football. Kiffin left Ole Miss Rebels just before their College Football Playoff run to join LSU.
Fans are eager to see if Kiffin and his No. 11 ranked LSU Tigers can meet the expectations. According to ESPN’s Marty Smith, the upcoming matchup is the most media and celebrity-credentialed game in LSU’s history. Smith reported, “LSU Football officials confirm to ESPN that Saturday’s season-opening home game against Clemson is the most media/celebrity-credentialed game in Tiger Stadium history.” It’s also LSU’s 102nd season in Tiger Stadium, adding to the excitement.
The game has gained extra attention because of comments made by Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney. During a press conference, Swinney criticized LSU for recruiting NFL players, as reported by On3 Sports. He stated, “It’s kind of embarrassing that’s where we are. I don’t blame the kids, but people trying to take advantage of the system. It’s embarrassing, but we’ve been there for a while.” Swinney concluded by saying, “No pun intended but we’re just going to stay in our lane.”
The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
