Jim Thornton, known for announcing on ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ is facing allegations linked to an incident on an American Airlines flight. Suspended from the show, Thornton and his lawyer have responded to the claims. The announcer’s lawyer told TMZ that Thornton, 61, has not engaged in illegal conduct, nor has he been arrested or charged with any crime.
Sony Pictures Television Studios released a statement to Fox News Digital regarding the situation: “We have recently been made aware of allegations concerning Jim Thornton. He has been suspended from Wheel of Fortune, and we are recasting while we conduct a thorough investigation.”
Thornton became the announcer in 2011, taking over after the death of Charlie O’Donnell in 2010. Thornton’s involvement with the show has remained constant until this recent suspension.
The alleged incident took place during a flight Thornton took in May. According to a TMZ report, a passenger complained about Thornton’s conduct, leading to law enforcement meeting him at the gate upon the flight’s arrival at Los Angeles International Airport.
On May 14, American Airlines Flight 1276 was met by law enforcement upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport following concerns reported by a customer onboard.
Law enforcement questioned Thornton briefly and informed him he was free to go, as they found no wrongdoing. This swift resolution is noted by Thornton’s lawyer, emphasizing the lack of any legal issues faced by his client.
Thornton has a diverse background in entertainment, with past voice roles in shows like ‘Celebrity Death Match’ and the movie ‘Monsters, Inc.’ He has announced on ‘The Price is Right’ and ‘Jeopardy!’ and has been affiliated with KNX 1070 news radio since 1985.
Throughout his career, Thornton has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Edward R. Murrow award and an Emmy, as mentioned in his biography on the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ website.
