Podcaster Joe Rogan spoke out against the supporters of Lindsay Clancy during the “Joe Rogan Experience” on Tuesday. Clancy, a former nurse from Duxbury, Massachusetts, faces trial for the murder of her three young children, Cora, Dawson, and Callan. She stands accused of three counts of first-degree murder.
Despite admitting to the killings, Clancy’s defense argues she was suffering from postpartum psychosis. This aspect of the case has sparked numerous discussions online, with supporters suggesting conspiracy theories or simply rallying in her favor.
“This lady killed her kids and everyone’s like, ‘Oh my God, she needed help.’ Imagine if a single father killed his kids. Do you think there’d be any dads out there saying, ‘We get it. We understand. I also get sad!'” Rogan commented.
Rogan further criticized those defending Clancy, urging them to consider the gravity of the crime and the reality of the murder scene. He expressed bewilderment at the social media phenomenon surrounding the case, describing it as “absurd beyond belief.”
“People are out of their mind right now. She’s out of her mind. The world is out of its mind…supporting a woman who killed her children is crazy,” Rogan stated.
Rogan underscored the traditional view that parents should protect their children, contrasting it with the current sentiment of Clancy’s supporters.
Later, he discussed a wider issue, suggesting that childless liberal women are becoming radicalized. Rogan noted that their concerns about societal issues might be a way of parenting the world.
A psychiatrist, Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring, commented on the case, stating, “Rogan is right about one thing: people can turn cases like this into teams. That is not healthy.”
Witt-Doerring warned against turning Clancy into a symbol without understanding the facts, urging supporters to base their defense on medical and legal evidence. He noted the pressures and mental health challenges Clancy faced, including being prescribed numerous psychiatric medications.
He argued that cases like Clancy’s, if found not guilty by reason of insanity, are rare and should not imply that anyone with mental illness can commit a crime and evade the law.
Mary Marslender, a former GOP consultant, agreed with Rogan on the double standard in such cases. She doubted whether similar support would be shown for a father and criticized the hypocrisy of those rallying behind Clancy.
“It is possible to acknowledge Clancy’s illness and psychiatric system flaws while not idolizing someone who brutally killed her children,” Marslender concluded.
