An aircraft carrying Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin made an emergency landing on Wednesday after losing an engine. The C-37A, a military variant of the Gulfstream V, landed safely at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The plane had 14 people on board, and fortunately, no injuries occurred. Secretary Mullin acknowledged the incident on X, praising the pilots for their expertise in managing the emergency with calm and professionalism. He described the landing as feeling routine without any panic.
The Department of Homeland Security had previously flagged concerns about the plane. According to the department’s statement from last year, the 22-year-old Coast Guard plane faces significant issues with outdated avionics and communications systems.
