Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has resigned after months of tension within Pentagon leadership. He submitted his resignation to President Donald Trump, highlighting reported clashes with War Secretary Pete Hegseth. The departure marks a significant shift amidst escalating tensions in the U.S.-Iran conflict. Following Driscoll’s resignation, President Trump appointed Adam Telle, the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, as acting Secretary of the Army. “I am pleased to announce that Adam Telle, the current Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, will become Acting Secretary of the Army,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Adam Telle has a notable background in legislative affairs, having served as chief of staff to Sen. Bill Hagerty, Trump’s liaison to the Senate, and in various roles within the Senate Appropriations Committee. He was confirmed by the Senate in 2025, and oversees flood and storm protection, commercial waterways, and Clean Water Act permitting within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Civil Works program.
Telle’s appointment aims to fill a leadership void in the Army, the nation’s largest military branch. His ability to build strong relationships with senators may help future Army confirmations currently stalled in the Senate.
Driscoll’s resignation followed disagreements with Pete Hegseth over Army transformation and readiness. Despite these clashes, Driscoll expressed gratitude for serving under Trump and Hegseth. He stated, “I had the privilege of working with them to modernize and accelerate how the Army mans, trains, and equips the most lethal fighting force on the face of the earth.” Driscoll recognized the support from Hegseth, thanking President Trump for the opportunity to serve.
