Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign has attracted attention due to his association with Hasan Piker, a left-wing influencer with a history of controversial remarks. Piker, who has made statements critical of America, maintains a large online following. Concerns have emerged that this association could negatively impact El-Sayed’s candidacy, especially among swing voters during the midterm elections in Michigan.
With the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks approaching, El-Sayed’s public schedule raised eyebrows by not listing a remembrance event. Instead, it featured attendance at a Mexican festival, a farmers market, and a county fair. After inquiries from Fox News Digital, the campaign stated that El-Sayed would participate in a 9/11 memorial event, although this was not shown on his website.
The September 11th terrorist attacks were an evil attack on America’s freedom, and he will be joining Michiganders in remembering the 25th anniversary.
The campaign’s schedule included Fiesta Mexicana, described as a celebration of Mexican culture with music and food in West Michigan. Additionally, the Allegan County Fair offered entertainment, food, games, and rides. El-Sayed’s campaign clarified he would not attend all events listed but did not specify which ones.
El-Sayed’s connection to 9/11 has been complicated by earlier statements associated with his campaign partner Hasan Piker. Piker’s controversial quote about America was labeled dumb
by El-Sayed; however, he did not disavow Piker outright. Also, past social media activity from El-Sayed drew criticism for potentially controversial comparisons between 9/11, January 6, and other issues.
Fox News Digital revealed El-Sayed previously compared the 9/11 attacks to events like January 6 and made analogies involving political figures in a private blog. His public stance urged America to display similar outrage for the COVID-19 pandemic as for 9/11. These statements have fed ongoing scrutiny as the election approaches.
