West Virginia has witnessed a shocking incident as school administrators swiftly suspended a high school principal. Multiple recording devices were reportedly discovered in locker rooms at Brooke High School in Wellsburg.
Principal Investigated
Eric James, 53, the principal, became the focus of a criminal investigation. Four devices were reportedly found in female locker rooms, including areas used by the school’s dance team. This information comes from WTOV 9.
“Yesterday, after students were released, Brooke County Schools was informed of a criminal investigation into allegations that a recording device was placed in a locker room at Brooke High School,” a memo sent on Thursday by the school system stated, according to Lede News.
Suspension and Arrest
Eric James faced immediate suspension following these discoveries. Reports indicate that, in addition to devices found at the school, others were seized from his home.
James is detained at the Northern Regional Jail in Marshall County, West Virginia. The charges against him include two felonies: intercepting wire, oral, or electronic communications and breaking and entering a nonresidence. His bond is set at $100,000, based on information from the state’s Magistrate Database and the West Virginia Regional Jail Authority.
School System Response
The school system assured the community it is committed to maintaining safety and privacy. A statement highlighted their non-tolerance for any conduct that compromises these responsibilities. They are fully cooperating with law enforcement and performing internal investigations.
