A 9-year-old boy shot a 13-year-old boy on Friday afternoon, critically wounding him, police reported. The incident occurred in the Fuller Park neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago.
The 9-year-old was inside a home located in the 5200 block of South Wells Street. While in possession of a firearm, he discharged it once, striking the 13-year-old at around 4 p.m., according to Chicago police.
The 13-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder and was taken to UChicago Medicine. He remains in critical condition, authorities said.
Police recovered one handgun at the scene. Area detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
