January 13, 2024, stands out vividly for many college football fans. A friend’s birthday party turned into a lively debate among fans of Florida’s ‘Big 3’ schools: Miami, Florida, and Florida State. As a Gator supporter, I enjoyed teasing the Miami fans about their struggle to secure a quarterback in the transfer portal.
The moment shifted when a notification came through: “BREAKING: Cam Ward, the ex-Washington State QB, heading to Miami.” This announcement quickly turned the tide in favor of Miami supporters. Ward had a stellar 2024 season, which led him to declare for the NFL Draft.
As the Hurricanes’ rivals resumed their mocking, the tables turned again. Miami gained Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, following another strategic transfer addition. The Hurricanes came close to a national championship victory, proving their critics wrong.

The lesson is clear for Miami’s rivals, myself included: avoid celebrating their possible setbacks prematurely. As the next offseason approaches, betting against Miami may not be wise. They have a history of securing top-notch quarterbacks ready for one last college run.
