Two men have died within approximately 24 hours during the Burning Man festival in Nevada. This event gathered tens of thousands of participants, often referred to as ‘burners,’ in the Nevada desert for its conclusion.
Craigh Mann, a 60-year-old attendee, was discovered dead by his campmates on Saturday afternoon, as confirmed by festival organizers. This follows another incident where a man in his mid-50s died due to a medical emergency the previous day.
Mann was located at his campsite in Black Rock City around 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, according to the Burning Man Project.
“Burning Man Project is saddened to share that a second Black Rock City participant, Craigh Mann, a 60-year-old man, was found deceased by campmates in his camp,” organizers said in a statement.
The organizers expressed their condolences to Mann’s family, friends, and campmates affected by his loss. They had previously announced the initial death on Friday evening.
The man in his mid-50s encountered a medical emergency and received lifesaving assistance before being taken to the festival’s onsite emergency care center, the Burning Man Project reported. He was pronounced dead at the center, though further details about the emergency were not disclosed pending notification of his family.
Organizers emphasized their commitment to the community’s safety and well-being, noting that support resources were available at all times for attendees. Black Rock City serves as a temporary community built yearly to host this significant event.
The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office has not responded to requests for comment regarding these incidents.
Burning Man 2026 commenced on August 30 and was scheduled to end on Monday. This expansive festival can attract up to 80,000 participants. The event is particularly known for the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy.
