Hunter Mahan’s Departure and Rediscovery
In 2021, Hunter Mahan decided to step away from the PGA Tour. He spoke openly about feeling burnt out from the relentless demands of professional golf. Over the past five years, Mahan has embraced family life, taken up coaching high school golf, and reconnected with the sport he once left.
Recently, Mahan ventured into the digital world of golf content. In June, he began sharing his journey back to the game through videos. He also offered instructional content and other insights, amassing over 55,000 followers on Instagram.
Mahan shared, “My wife took some videos and suggested I play more. I went to the course, recorded my thoughts, and received an overwhelmingly positive response.”
Exploring New Opportunities in Golf
While Mahan enjoys his role in the content space, he also considers competing again. He eyes the PGA Tour Champions, where he would qualify upon turning 50. With slightly over five years until this possibility, his competitive spirit is awakening.
He remarked, “I’m exploring various paths in golf. The Champions Tour might be on the horizon. With many friends approaching 50, it could be enjoyable.”
Mahan continues to engage with the golf community, learning from both professional and non-professional perspectives. He expressed surprise at the positive reactions to his new ventures.
Mahan’s Experience and Achievements
Hunter Mahan was highly ranked, reaching the top five in the Official World Golf Ranking in 2012. He won six times on the PGA Tour, with his first victory at the 2007 Travelers Championship and his last at The Barclays in 2014.
Given his accomplishments, Mahan would hold immediate status to compete on the PGA Tour Champions upon reaching eligibility age.
The golf community remains intrigued by Mahan’s evolving role and potential return to competitive play.
