Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK Return Doesn’t Alter Royal Status

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have returned to the UK, but Buckingham Palace has made it clear their royal roles remain unchanged. A letter from King Charles III confirmed they will not resume official duties after stepping back in 2020 as working royals.

The letter explained the Duke and Duchess hold no representative duties for The Sovereign and maintain financial independence and privacy. Their move does not affect their royal status.

Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used. Their charity work is personal.

Sent by the Lord Chamberlain to government and military officials, the letter underlined the couple’s position as private citizens.

Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, have enrolled in British schools. The family plans to reside at a private location near London.

Royal expert Hilary Fordwich noted their return isn’t tied to regaining official roles. The lack of a ‘half-in, half-out’ role reflects prior agreements with Queen Elizabeth II.

Meanwhile, former butler Grant Harrold suggested Harry’s return might stem from a desire to spend more time with his father, hinting personal motives behind the move.

Their homecoming places them under public and palace scrutiny once more.
