An Indiana family farm is under criticism for creating a corn maze tribute to Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative figure. Despite the backlash, farm manager Jeremy Goebel stated that Global Farms stands by their decision and would do it again.
Maze Meant to Honor Free Speech
Goebel emphasized that the intention behind the tribute was not to cause division but to honor Kirk’s advocacy for open debate and freedom of speech. He noted that the negative reviews began flooding in immediately after unveiling the design.
“Absolutely, we would do it again,” Goebel said.
The announcement of the maze led to a surge of one-star reviews, including from previous customers who disagreed with the tribute.
Impact of the Backlash
The farm faced accusations of deceptive practices, leading to the temporary closure of their Google profile. Goebel expressed confusion over the level of criticism, pointing out that the maze was meant to honor a man who promoted freedom of speech.
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. His death occurred amid his “American Comeback Tour.”
Mixed Reactions
While the farm received significant backlash, there was also an outpouring of support from people globally, including messages from South Africa and Australia.
Goebel remarked, “The majority of feedback has been positive.”
He stressed that listening to different perspectives is crucial for societal progress, encouraging open dialogue to challenge and refine ideas.
