New York Yankees fans had high hopes for Aaron Judge’s return, believing his comeback would address the team’s issues. Judge made his return against the Colorado Rockies, but his performance was far from remarkable. In his first game back, he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.
Judge, wearing number 99, stepped onto the field at Yankee Stadium after being out since May 31 due to a rib stress fracture. He batted third and handled right field duties. However, his at-bats ended in a swing and miss, a flyout, and a looking strikeout. After six defensive innings, Manager Aaron Boone decided to remove him from the game.
“Nobody expected a three-homer spectacle after 100 days,” an observer noted.
Interestingly, the excitement on the field wasn’t delivered by Judge. Heliot Ramos came in as a pinch-hitter during the bottom of the eighth inning. He hit a crucial three-run homer, leading to a 5-3 victory for the Yankees.
With the Yankees in a challenging AL East race against the Tampa Bay Rays, Judge pushed to rejoin the major league action. The team treated this series as a chance for Judge to gradually rebuild his momentum, which looks practical but wasn’t thrilling for fans immediately.
During the 84 games without Judge, New York’s batting average plummeted to .227. Fans eagerly awaited his return, drawing comparisons to Babe Ruth. Yet, his swing showed lingering signs of rust.
Despite the underwhelming comeback, Judge’s presence brought optimism to a team in need. While his immediate impact was muted, there is hope that his form will improve with more game time.
