The White House Historical Association, a nonprofit established by Jacqueline Kennedy to maintain the building’s character, has not openly critiqued President Trump’s alterations. On September 9, 2026, Stewart McLaurin, leader of the Association, appeared in 2024 within the replica of the Oval Office at “The People’s House” exhibit.
In October last year, when President Trump dismantled the White House’s East Wing, many including the public, congress members, and parts of his administration expressed surprise. However, the Association’s leaders were not caught off guard. They had known since late July about Trump’s plans to replace the East Wing with a ballroom, as clarified by a spokesperson. Despite awareness, they chose not to oppose the president’s intentions. The demolition plans became public knowledge only after the equipment commenced work three months later.
