Woody Johnson to Be Honored at Tunnel to Towers Gala

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is set to receive an honor at the Tunnel to Towers annual gala later this year. This recognition comes in light of his decade-long partnership with the organization.

Tunnel to Towers was established in 2001 with the mission to assist 9/11 first responders, veterans, and their families. The organization provides mortgage-free smart homes to disabled servicemen and housing for homeless veterans.

Johnson’s involvement with Tunnel to Towers began in 2014 when he contributed $1 million to the Building for America’s Bravest program.

In recent events, Johnson and Tunnel to Towers surprised Command Sergeant Major William “Bud” McElroy with a new mortgage-free smart home.

Johnson expressed his gratitude, stating, “Tunnel to Towers’ extraordinary work is a constant reminder of the importance of honoring the memory of the heroes who demonstrated courage and made the ultimate sacrifice for this country.” He added that the organization has transformed grief into action over the past twenty years.

Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of Tunnel to Towers, praised Johnson in a statement, saying, “Woody Johnson has been standing with our families for more than a decade, and he’s never once asked for anything in return.”

Thanks to Johnson, his family, and the Betty Wood Johnson Foundation, six veterans with severe injuries now live in specially adapted smart homes. Additionally, families of first responders across the U.S. have been able to keep their homes.

Siller also mentioned, “My brother Stephen ran toward people who needed him without asking what it would cost him — Woody has been doing the same thing for twelve years.” Johnson will receive the Follow the Footsteps Award at the upcoming December gala.

In his career, Johnson has also served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom during the first Trump administration and is a founding trustee of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
