Prince Harry’s Invictus Games for injured veterans faced a setback as Uganda announced its withdrawal. This decision came from Uganda’s military commander, stating the move aims to support King Charles III and the monarchy.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Ugandan Chief of Defence Forces known for his contentious social media statements, made the announcement. Kainerugaba, who is the son of President Yoweri Museveni, shared his decision publicly on social media.
In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games. We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty’s approval.
Newsweek reached out to representatives of Prince Harry and the Ugandan government’s media team for any comments regarding Uganda’s decision.
Previously, Kainerugaba left and then returned to the social media platform in January 2025, expressing an intention to shake up this world.
