In Dallas, Democratic Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois addressed voters, dismissing the Republicans’ first-ever midterm convention. At a news conference organized by the Democratic National Committee, Pritzker urged voters to disregard what he described as misleading narratives from Republicans.
The Republican convention, held at the American Airlines Center, marks a crucial period with less than two months until the midterm elections. Early voting begins soon, and Republicans are working to maintain their control of both the House and Senate.
Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Joe Gruters stressed the significance of the convention. He stated, “We are putting the president on the ballot,” emphasizing that the midterm convention is designed to energize their base and enhance voter turnout for key races.
Governor Pritzker, a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential race, criticized the GOP’s efforts. He pointed out that the convention cannot disguise what he sees as the Republicans’ failure to earn voter support. Pritzker specifically criticized former President Donald Trump’s policies, blaming a trade war for increasing grocery costs and highlighting negative impacts on farmers and ranchers.
The governor also accused Republicans of attempting to manipulate the upcoming election. He suggested that Trump aims to limit mail-in voting through the U.S. Postal Service, believing Republicans know their policies lack popularity.
Pritzker warned, “If Democrats don’t win this election, future elections may also be manipulated.”
While Trump’s administration defends his mail-in voting policies as ensuring secure elections, Pritzker, seeking a third term in Illinois, is viewed as a possible 2028 presidential contender.
When asked by Fox News about his presence in Dallas, Pritzker stated, “I care a great deal about what happens in Texas. Voters everywhere should care, so I’m here to support the cause.”
