In 2017, I first encountered Charlie Kirk in a Los Angeles hotel lobby. After persistent attempts to connect, he finally agreed to meet. My initial impression was of his towering height at 6’5″ — a presence that seemed even greater. Charlie’s eyes were constantly scanning the room, juggling focus on his conversation with perceptions of all around him. His natural multitasking ability was something I would admire for years.
Charlie was intentional, avoiding time-wasting while diving straight into meaningful discussions. He was nonconforming, sporting an oversized suit and shoes more suited to someone much older. But despite his unconventional style, his sincerity stood out. In a world where politics often favors style over substance, Charlie was a breath of fresh air. By the end of our meeting, a working partnership took shape and later bloomed into a friendship that lasted over eight years.
In 2019, we launched “The Charlie Kirk Show,” initially as a weekly podcast. Charlie’s commitment to excellence saw it evolve into multiple episodes a week during COVID-19. Ultimately, it became a nationally syndicated radio and a successful television program by 2022.

Many tributes celebrated Charlie, yet they often overlooked the improbability of his triumph. Starting as a young person without resources or connections, he built Turning Point USA (TPUSA), aiming to engage youth with conservative values.
Charlie managed TPUSA without a salary for the first five years, relying on speaking stipends and friends’ couches. As the CEO, CMO, CFO, and spokesman, he was constantly on the road, ensuring the movement stayed afloat. When hurdles arose, whether financial crunches or public backlash, Charlie attributed the success to his faith, always ahead of setbacks by a hair.
His relentless travel took a physical toll, particularly on his back. Despite severe pain, he continued his mission, delivering speeches and participating in debates. Criticism was relentless, accusing him of aggressiveness or alleging responsibility for political losses. But adversities only strengthened his resolve. Charlie was committed to his work and believed in surpassing expectations.
Charlie Kirk became a transformative figure in Republican outreach. His efforts with Turning Point Action’s “Chase the Vote” galvanized voter efforts, making Arizona a key conservative state in 2024. His debates and campus tours challenged Gen Z’s political misconceptions, creating viral moments that reached billions.
The core of Charlie Kirk’s identity was his work ethic and unwavering belief in his mission. Critics rarely recognized the powerful machine he meticulously built to shift generational perspectives. Charlie, unaffected by despair, remained dedicated and optimistic.
Reflecting on his accomplishments today, Charlie’s journey wasn’t guaranteed. It required tireless dedication and resilience. We remember his inspiring call: “Never surrender.” As we continue forward, let Charlie’s legacy guide us to confront challenges and remain true to our values.
