Mike Tomlin, the former head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has taken on a new role as an NFL analyst for NBC Sports. Recently, he shared his insights following the season-opening game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.
Tomlin provided his prediction for the Steelers’ Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons, highlighting a critical perspective on Tua Tagovailoa, the Falcons’ starting quarterback. Tagovailoa had a rough outing in his last visit to Pittsburgh and Tomlin did not shy away from expressing his opinion.
It’s less about Aaron for me, and more about the quarterback on the other side,
Tomlin stated, referring to Tua Tagovailoa. His last visit to Pittsburgh didn’t go well. I was in the stadium that day. They lost. He got benched,
Tomlin remarked.
Tagovailoa experienced a challenging end to his tenure with Miami during last year’s Week 15 defeat in Pittsburgh. In that game, he recorded 253 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception as the team lost to Tomlin’s Steelers 28-15. Following this, he was benched for the season’s last three games in favor of Quinn Ewers.
Despite last year’s struggles, Tagovailoa is optimistic about his new opportunity with the Falcons. He has openly recognized the need for improvement, as noted in an interview with YahooSports. It’s not something that I take for granted, he expressed. There’s a lot of things I think I could have done better. Turned the ball over, could have played better. My decision making … in terms of last year just wasn’t good.
The upcoming face-off between the Falcons and Steelers is set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
