A federal jury in Los Angeles found Chicago rapper Lil Durk not guilty in a murder-for-hire case. Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, was charged with several felonies, including murder, stalking, and conspiracy. Accompanying him in the case were five individuals tied to his rap group, Only the Family (OTF).
The jury’s decision, reached on a Friday, acquitted Lil Durk of all accusations. However, two of his co-defendants, Deandre “OTF Dede” Wilson and David “Browneyez” Lindsey, received convictions for stalking and conspiracy but were acquitted of the murder-for-hire charges.
Prosecutors claimed Lil Durk planned to murder Atlanta rapper Quando Rondo, born Tyquian Bowman. This stemmed from a 2022 shooting incident where bullets aimed at Rondo instead resulted in the death of his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, near Beverly Center in L.A. Authorities believed this plot was retaliation for King Von’s murder, another Chicago OTF rapper, who died in a previous gunfight outside Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta.
It was alleged Lil Durk offered money to anyone who would kill Rondo. Keith “Flacka” Jones, named in the charges, admitted to Robinson’s murder and testified against Durk, Wilson, and Lindsey. Another, Kavon “OTF Vonnie” Grant, also pleaded guilty and testified against the trio.
Lil Durk, who received a 2024 Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance with his song “All My Life” featuring J. Cole, faced the possibility of a life sentence had he been convicted.
