Pink Defends Herself Amid Macklemore Controversy

Recently, Pink has addressed the backlash concerning her criticism of Macklemore following his remarks about Palestine during a concert. On September 4, during a performance at MetLife Stadium, Macklemore repeatedly chanted “Free Palestine” while visuals of the Gaza conflict played behind him. This performance upset many, including an Instagram page named “Stop Antisemitism,” which labeled Macklemore’s actions as “awful.” Pink shared this video on her Instagram story, sparking criticism from those who perceived her as pro-Israel.

Pink’s Response

Initially, Pink did not clarify her stance, but on September 11, she posted her thoughts on Instagram. “I’ve been quiet in my own words for a week, which you know isn’t like me. So here they are,” she began.

In her statement, Pink explained that while she shared the critical video of Macklemore, it contained words she wouldn’t have chosen. She emphasized that “a repost isn’t a statement,” and expressed a desire to be judged for her own words.

I was born a Jew. I didn’t pick it, and I’ve never hidden it. And this week a whole lot of people decided what I believe without asking me,

She clarified her position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating, “Hamas is a terrorist organization. Palestinians deserve a future that honors their humanity and aspirations. Protecting innocent life comes first.”

Macklemore’s Past Actions

Pink also recalled a past performance by Macklemore, perceived as antisemitic, where he wore an inaccurate costume, which she initially dismissed as a mistake after his apology.

She expressed her discomfort with Macklemore’s recent performance, detailing how it impacted Jewish attendees at the concert: “You don’t get to decide that for us.”

Standing for Beliefs

Pink has long been vocal about her beliefs, citing her protest songs and work with UNICEF as examples of her commitment. She noted the rising negativity in public discourse, particularly against Jewish people, and committed to standing up against this trend.

She concluded by highlighting the ongoing need for unity and understanding across communities. Pink emphasized her readiness to discuss her views openly, stating, “If anybody wants to really know what I think, just ask me. I’m right here.”

She ended her post with a nod to tradition and gratitude, marking the Rosh Hashanah holiday.
