Bill Maher, a comedian and podcast host, expressed criticism towards California’s voters and their steadfast support for Democrats. During an appearance on ‘Club Random’ with David Foster, Maher remarked that the state will never support a Republican candidate as long as former President Donald Trump is associated with the party.
Maher highlighted the example of Spencer Pratt, a Republican who failed to advance in Los Angeles’ mayoral race. He sensed that California’s political system is flawed. Maher concurred, emphasizing, ‘We are so partisan now that we accept failure over voting for Trump’s party.’
Maher openly criticized Trump for being vulgar, corrupt, and inept despite occasionally pursuing reasonable ideas like border control and nuclear disarmament.
He stated that California will continue voting for Democrats regardless of their shortcomings because Trump is involved in the Republican Party, a situation Maher sees as problematic.
Psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert explained this is not a unique problem to California or the Democrats, as Republicans can fall into similar traps. He noted that when politics is embedded in one’s identity, people excuse failures from their own side that they would condemn from the opposition.
Maher compared government-run grocery stores unfavorably to those in Cuba and the Soviet Union, warning against such systems.
In previous comments on his ‘Real Time’ show, Maher criticized California’s performance in education and green energy, stating that states like Mississippi and Texas outperform California on issues traditionally emphasized by Democrats.
Maher pointed to education outcomes, noting, ‘A Black fourth grader in Mississippi is 2.5 times as likely to be proficient in math and reading compared to one in California.’ He cited statistics showing Mississippi’s superior performance in educational assessments.
The National Assessment of Educational Programs indicated that Black fourth-graders in Mississippi are significantly more proficient in reading and math than their peers in California.
