Markwayne Mullin Criticizes Democrats Over Border Policy

Markwayne Mullin, the Secretary of Homeland Security, voiced his criticism towards Democrats concerning their stance on border protection. Following President Donald Trump’s approval of a $70 billion funding bill for ICE and CBP extending through 2029, Mullin accused Democrats of opposing border security measures. He expressed concerns regarding sanctuary cities and the rise in felony charges among arrested illegal immigrants. According to Mullin, the Trump administration maintained a strict policy against those aiding criminals and targeting law enforcement.

In response to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s proposed legislation, conservatives are raising objections. Omar introduced a bill that aims to redirect over $100 billion originally meant for immigration enforcement. This money would instead be used to support communities affected by the Department of Homeland Security’s activities. Omar’s “Make ICE Pay Act” was introduced as a reaction to “Operation Metro Surge” in Minnesota, proposing to divert nearly $140 billion from ICE and Border Patrol funding towards local recovery efforts in communities impacted by immigration enforcement.

Omar detailed that the reallocated funding would help local jurisdictions provide economic relief and support to nonprofits, small businesses, schools, healthcare, and psychological services. The plan would also address increased local government expenses and other community needs. This initiative would be managed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and overseen by its inspector general, expiring after three years.

“ICE has been tearing through our nation, devastating our neighborhoods, our cities, and our businesses,” Omar posted on social media. “Our communities deserve accountability. My Make ICE Pay Act will redirect ICE’s $140 billion budget to the communities they’ve hurt the most.”

Despite the bill’s slim chances due to Republican control in Congress and the White House, conservatives condemn it as prioritizing illegal immigrants over immigration law enforcement. Sen. Jim Banks expressed his disapproval, labeling the legislation as un-American, accusing it of defunding law enforcement and benefiting communities that protect illegal immigrants. Other conservatives echoed similar sentiments, criticizing the proposal on social media.

Meanwhile, Fox News reported that White House border czar Tom Homan acknowledged an ongoing inquiry by the Department of Homeland Security into allegations concerning Omar. However, Homan did not disclose specifics regarding the investigation. Accusations against Omar, including marrying a man alleged to be her brother for immigration purposes, have circulated for a while. Omar has consistently refuted these claims, dismissing them as false.

Fox News Digital sought comments from Omar’s office but did not receive a response. Additionally, discussions with Homan revealed no public records proving such allegations. This ongoing narrative has drawn both political and public scrutiny as it continues to unfold.
