New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani extended an invitation to all media members for a meeting with President Donald Trump. This event followed Trump’s recent decision to restrict certain media outlets from the White House.
The press conference took place at Gracie Mansion. When asked if he questioned Trump about barring CNN, MS NOW, and Politico, Mamdani stated, “I told the president that we’re going to have all of the members of the press here on the lawn. And that is something that I believe in, as everyone, no matter the opinion or the critique that we engage in.”
Trump addressed the gathering and defended his actions. He also discussed the suspension of presidential pool coverage by networks including FOX News Media, ABC News, CBS News, CNN, and NBC News. Trump remarked that despite claims of a boycott, that was not the case.
“It’s interesting because they said they were going to boycott me, but they never boycott me. So I wasn’t very worried about that. Look at all that press,” Trump commented.
He justified engaging with the media at Gracie Mansion. Trump stated that media entities have an obligation, highlighting the economic growth attributed to his administration, such as having $21 trillion in economic gains. “I’m only doing it because I think the press also has an obligation,” Trump asserted.
Trump expressed concern that allowing certain media outlets into the White House could pose a national security risk. He accused these outlets of disseminating fake news, particularly regarding his achievements in conflict resolution and the economy.
“I never get anything positive. It’s always negative, even having to do with the war. We’ve done so well,” Trump remarked in reference to Iran.
President Trump continued his criticism, targeting CNN and labeling its stories as “fake news.” He reiterated the belief that some media outlets are detrimental to national security.
In response, the White House TV pool members—FOX News Media, ABC News, CBS News, CNN, and NBC News—announced the suspension of pooled coverage of President Trump.
