Kailey Skurka Nears Career Milestone at Lake Central

Senior outside hitter Kailey Skurka is on the verge of a significant milestone as her four-year varsity volleyball career at Lake Central nears its end. With seven regular-season matches and at least one postseason match remaining, the 5-foot-11 Skurka needs 51 kills to achieve 1,000 in her career.

Skurka stated, “It’s something I’ve been working toward since freshman year. I always knew I could reach this milestone, especially with four years on varsity. Achieving it would mean a lot as it reflects my hard work paying off.”

A Seton Hill commit, Skurka leads her team with 195 kills, 115 digs, and 219 serve receptions this season. She plays a vital role in a balanced offense full of skilled hitters. Coach Naveed Nizam emphasizes the impact of her legacy at Lake Central. He remarked, “Her achievement will inaugurate the 1,000 club, celebrating those who achieve 1,000 assists, kills, or digs.”

“She’ll also be remembered as a leader and a player who dominated the court,” Nizam added. “Future players can aspire to be like Kailey Skurka.”

Her influence extends to teammates like senior outside hitter Arielle Carter-Reed, who has 91 kills, 109 digs, 215 serve receptions, and a team-high 23 aces. Inspired by Skurka, Carter-Reed shared, “Playing alongside her elevates my game. Her performance encourages me to strive for greatness.”

Skurka’s leadership motivates the team to aim high this season. “Our goal is tying for first in the DAC and winning sectionals for the first time,” Skurka said. “We have the potential to win; it’s about which team shows up on game day.”

As Skurka prepares for college, she looks forward to new experiences. She expressed excitement about competing at a higher level and meeting new friends. “I’m excited to challenge myself further and begin a new phase of life,” she said.
