Ben Affleck shared insights into his life as a parent to teenagers during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The 54-year-old actor described the unexpected experience of not always being seen as the “cool dad” by his children.
Affleck recounted a moment at the dinner table when he attempted to offer relationship advice to his kids. His 17-year-old responded with skepticism, questioning his expertise based on his own relationship history.
The actor and his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, share three children: Violet, 20, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 14. Affleck and Garner were married for over a decade before separating in 2015 and finalizing their divorce in 2018. Throughout the years, Affleck has been involved in several high-profile relationships, including with Lindsay Shookus and Shauna Sexton.
Affleck made headlines in 2019 for his relationship with Ana de Armas, which lasted until early 2021. Following this, he rekindled his romance with Jennifer Lopez, having initially dated her between 2002 and 2004. The couple reconnected in April 2021, went public in July of the same year, and married in July 2022.
In her newsletter, Lopez expressed her belief in living with pride and integrity both personally and for their children. However, after just over two years, reports suggested she filed for divorce in August 2024.
During the interview with Kimmel, Affleck also mentioned that Garner was offered the role of his love interest in his new film “Animals.” Although she declined, Affleck found an alternative in actress Kerry Washington. The film, directed and co-written by Affleck, tells the story of a couple striving to pay their son’s ransom.
