Kathy Griffin Criticizes Ed Sheeran Over Macklemore Tour Ban

Comedian Kathy Griffin expressed her displeasure over the exclusion of singer Macklemore from Ed Sheeran’s performances. The removal stemmed from Macklemore’s promotion of “Free Palestine” on stage. This action came after Robert Kraft, the owner of Gillette Stadium, banned Macklemore from performing there.

Griffin spoke in an interview with Queerty, urging Ed Sheeran to have supported Macklemore more strongly. She pointed out that Sheeran had the option to choose alternative venues and oppose Kraft’s stance.

“I wish Ed Sheeran had not taken advice to drop Macklemore,” Griffin said. She believed Sheeran had other options, saying he could perform elsewhere instead of succumbing to Kraft’s influence.

Griffin emphasized the protection of speech under the First Amendment and shared her own views on the situation in Palestine. She communicated her support for a “Free Palestine” and expressed her views on the political situation in Israel.

Following the controversy, Macklemore announced new concert plans under the banner “Free Palestine Tour.” These shows are scheduled for Dublin, Paris, and London.

The situation also received reactions from various organizations. The Israeli-American Council (IAC) applauded Kraft’s decision, associating Macklemore’s actions with antisemitism. They supported Kraft for upholding a principle against allowing performers who promote such messages.

Fox News reached out to representatives of Ed Sheeran and Robert Kraft for comments. The response from Macklemore was to organize his upcoming tour dates. Despite facing criticism from pro-Israeli groups, Macklemore continues to receive backing from progressive activists.
