Sylvester Stallone recently reflected on the challenges he would face if he were trying to build his career in today’s Hollywood. In a conversation with Tracy Smith for CBS Sunday Morning’s new series at 92NY, Stallone admitted that his success might not be replicated today. He noted, “It’s a whole different mindset. The actors look different, they act different. The subject matter, I couldn’t relate to.”
Stallone compared the current entertainment landscape to the era of iconic films like “The Godfather.” He questioned the feasibility of casting such a classic today. The actor emphasized the difference in attitudes and appearances, underscoring his potential difficulties in connecting with contemporary Hollywood.
No. It’s a whole different mindset. The actors look different, they act different. The subject matter, I couldn’t relate to.– Sylvester Stallone
Reflecting on his breakthrough film “Rocky,” Stallone jokingly indicated he might have ended up in prison or working with horses had the film failed. “Rocky,” released in 1976, became a massive hit, grossing over $225 million worldwide on a modest budget. It went on to win the Academy Award for best picture, cementing Stallone’s status as a leading action star.
Stallone expressed his adherence to “Murphy’s Law,” a principle that has guided him throughout his career. He explained that this mindset still influences his actions, such as memorizing the route to the fire escape when staying at hotels with his wife, Jennifer Flavin.
Stallone and Flavin have been married since 1997, sharing three daughters: Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet. Although Flavin filed for divorce in 2022, the couple reconciled shortly after.
The actor is preparing to release his memoir, “The Steps,” which he describes as a testament to his journey. Speaking at the 92NY event, Stallone emphasized the importance of the first step in any journey: “It really is that first step. When you go, ‘I’m all in, and I’m going to keep going up these steps until my legs go out.’ It’s the journey of life.” “The Steps: A Memoir” is scheduled for release on September 29.
