On Friday, actor Adam Brody added his voice to a growing group of progressive celebrities criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza. Speaking to GQ Magazine about his involvement with the organization Swing Left, Brody labeled the situation a “genocide” and called for a free Palestine.

Brody, known for his role in Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This,” shared hope that new governmental leadership might improve the situation. He acknowledged discussing these issues in private and emphasized the urgent need for change due to ongoing suffering.

“Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide,” Brody said in the interview. “Put me down as wanting a free Palestine. It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago. I’m hopeful that another administration can really do some good and correct some of these policies that are helping that situation be as awful as it is.”

Brody’s statements mirror those of other celebrities like Mark Ruffalo and Macklemore, who have similarly condemned the conflict as genocide. Despite this, Brody noted a decline in political activism within Hollywood and expressed reluctance to discuss politics in interviews.

He reflected on the initial shock of Donald Trump’s election, which prompted widespread activism and political candidacies. Brody described Trump’s presidency as divisive and damaging, making it easier to oppose at first. He observed, however, that support for Trump grew during his second term, complicating public opposition.

Brody expressed optimism for renewed activism as the next election approaches, noting a growing sense of empowerment. He also commented on Hollywood’s political shift under Trump, suggesting an increased conservative presence driven by opportunism.

Christian Toto, founder of “Hollywood in Toto,” contested Brody’s view, stating that while the environment for conservatives in Hollywood might have slightly improved, the pressure of groupthink and behind-the-scenes bullying remains significant. He characterized Brody’s openness about his views as part of a strategic career move.
