Late-Night Hosts Discuss Kimmel’s Role in Trump’s Criticism

Late-night show hosts Seth Meyers and John Oliver expressed their views on Jimmy Kimmel’s relationship with President Donald Trump. During a conversation with Kimmel on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” they described him as their “bulletproof vest” against Trump’s criticisms.

Oliver shared that Kimmel often comes up during the question-and-answer segments of the stand-up comedy tours he does with Meyers. “People usually ask about what it is like being disliked by the current president,” Oliver mentioned. “We always reply that as long as Kimmel is on air, we are fine,” he added. Meyers agreed, noting that Kimmel attracts all the president’s ire.

Oliver and Meyers showed a united front, indicating their support for Kimmel. “We’re behind you the way we’re behind a bulletproof vest,” Oliver assured Kimmel.

The hosts speculated on why Kimmel garners so much attention from Trump. Meyers suggested that despite Kimmel’s dislike for Trump, the president might actually want to socialize with him. Meyers humorously imagined Trump’s thoughts, saying, “He must think about Kimmel all the time, mentioning his famous friends and his parties.”

Kimmel noted that Trump never seemed upset with former host Jon Stewart and remarked that Trump occasionally gets upset with Meyers. He guessed that Trump primarily watches major networks, not having access to HBO, where Oliver’s show airs. “He definitely doesn’t have Comedy Central,” Kimmel joked, noting that many people don’t know where to find that channel.

Further, Kimmel suggested that his show airs too late for the president, who, according to Kimmel, might be too busy tweeting by then. Meyers found personal significance whenever Trump comments on his show as it airs, highlighting how the president’s engagement with live television, despite the advertisements, matters to him.

The conversation took a critical turn when a White House spokesperson commented on the comedians in a statement to Fox News Digital. The spokesperson derided Meyers, referring to him as “Marble Mouth Meyers” and suggested he suffers from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Oliver was also criticized, with the spokesperson labeling him a “pathetic moron.”

The White House reiterated their previous harsh statement about Kimmel, calling him a “no-talent loser” with declining ratings.

The conversation and criticisms highlight ongoing tensions between the White House and late-night television hosts, illustrating the continued cultural and political divides.
